For a client with personal and professional interest in New York City’s sustainable future, our shared vision for this project was to transform a Brooklyn townhouse into a high performance, energy-efficient home that reflected her environmental values while providing a space for her family. Guided by a collaborative approach, the renovation of this Brooklyn townhome embraced cutting-edge energy efficiency while keeping to a very tide budged.

The home’s almost perfectly insulated shell was formed from sustainable building methods and materials, including wood fiber insulation, an air tight interior air barrier, and Austrian triple-pane windows. The exterior is clad in natural shou sugi ban siding, a charred wood product that promotes carbon capture and dimensional stability. The pitched roof, lined with solar panels on both sides, provides energy for the residence, while the array’s strategic orientation en-sures year-round efficiency. The result is a home that reflects environmental values while providing a space for a family of three and couple of chickens.
